Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Goddess
or Durga.Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the most visited pilgrimage centers in India.This hindu
Goddess temple is located at the Trikuta Mountains within the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
There is a long history behind this temple .The story of Vaishno Devi is found in Chanddi up-purana.
In Hinduism, Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Mother
Goddess.The Yatra begins at Katra and pilgrims have to cover 13 km. of terrain on foot to reach the
Darbar or we can say to the mata temple.While covering the distance to reach the darbar there are
many of small temples also .Each and every facilities are available there.The people are served with
differnt food in the form of langer.The medical facilities are also there.Vaishnodevi pilgrims
(yatris) visit the temple every year.The Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board maintains the shrine.
The “Aarti” of the Maa Vaishno Devi at Holy Cave is performed Twice a Day.
Morning just before the Sunrise.
Evening immediately after the Sunset.
Helicopter Services at Mata Vaishno devi is operated between Katra-Sanjichatta-Katra. Helicopter
services start from the Katra Helipad (Which is 2 Km from Bus Stand Katra) and ends at the Sanjichatta
Helipad.From Sanjichatta to mata bhawan the (yatris) have to go on foot .Before the start of “Aarti”,
Pujaris perform “Aatam Pujan/Shuddhee” (Self-Purification).After the aarti the thaal which contains
the lamp and various other items used in the ‘Aarti’, is brought outside the mouth of the holy cave,
where ‘Aarti’ of the goddess is performed in the presence of yatris.
The Board has undertaken a number of developmental activities aimed at making the Yatra a comfortable
and satisfying experience for the Yatris.
