BENEFITS OF DRIED APRICOTS

BENEFITS OF DRIED APRICOTS

Apricot is a medium sized deciduous tree that grows best in well-drained mountainous slope

soils. During the spring, it bears plenty of beautiful pinkish-white flowers that attract bees.

The fruits have almost uniform size, 4-5 cm in diameter, and weigh about 35 g. In structure; the

fruit is a drupe, consisting of a centrally located single pit surrounded by crunchy, aromatic

edible flesh. Apricots are  very good, or excellent source  of the nutrients according to

our Food Rating System. They provide the sufficient amount of nutrients which are very

helpful for humans.

1. Apricots are rich in the carotenoids and xanthophylls, nutrients that researchers believe may help

   protect eyesight from aging-related damage

2. Rich in vitamin A- Dried apricots are a good source of potassium and magnesium, two minerals

that give the body endurance, energy and stamina.

3. Constipation-Dried apricots have pectin. They also contain cellulose that is a mild laxative and

treats constipation. Cellulose acts as an insoluble fiber and pectin maintains water levels in the

   body during constipation.

4. Dried apricots are also high in carotenoids and other potent antioxidant phytonutrients. Dried

apricots’ beta-carotene content makes them especially rich in vitamin A, providing nearly 47 percent

of the daily value in a half-cup serving. Vitamin A functions as an antioxidant and is essential for

cell growth, immune system function and eye health.

5. Dried apricots are consumed before a meal to stimulate digestion. This contains the

   alkali that neutralizes acids.

6. Apricots are rich in other antioxidants, too, including polyphenolic antioxidants like flavonoids.

Diets rich in flavonoids and the other types of polyphenols found in apricots have been linked to

reductions in heart disease in humans.
