Situated at an altitude of 2730 m, Sonamarg (‘the meadow of gold’) is a mesmerizing hill station in
the Ganderbal district in Jammu and Kashmir.It has snowy mountains against a spectacular sky as its
backdrop. The Sindh River flows through the valley. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas
glacier, which is a major local attraction during the summer months.Sonmarg or ‘Meadow of Gold’ is
situated a few kms before the Zoji La pass, and is also a popular route to traverse to Ladakh. Abundant
with beautiful flowers in an array of colors, Sonmarg is famous for its undulated and far-reaching
trekking routes, which pass through many other tourist spots such as Vishansar and Gangabal lakes.
