KURTA

KURTA
Kurta-Pajama, consisting of two pieces of garments, is one of the basic clothing of the Indian male

and female. The term kurta, pronounced is a generic term used in South Asia for several forms of upper

garments for men and women, with regional variations of form. The first garment is a kurta that is

like a loose long shirt almost reaching the knees, whereas the second one is the pajama or pyjama,

which is a lightweight drawstring trouser.Only soft material fabrics are used for making kurta pajama

as it is supposed to be a comfortable loose fitting dress.Today the kurta is also worn with jeans.

Apart from this one more type of pajama is there known as “Churidar”.Churidars are tightly fitting

trousers worn by both men and women .Churidars are a variant of the common salwar pants. Salwars

are cut wide at the top and narrow at the ankle. The churidar pajama are also longer than the leg

and sometimes finish with a tightly fitting buttoned cuff at the ankle. The excess length falls

into folds and appears like a set of bangles resting on the ankle.Kurtas worn in the summer months

are usually made of thin silk or cotton fabrics; winter season kurtas are made of thicker fabric

such as wool or Khadi silk, a thick, coarse, handspun and handwoven silk that may be mixed with

other fibers. In India, Kurta is a very popular dress among the political class. Almost all the

politicians are seen wearing a crisp white kurta made from khadi. Kurta also reflects India’s

culture and tradition. On any auspicious day or festivals, people are seen wearing colorful kurtas.
